You have to understand fully the washing machine, if you want to work closely together. You must be able to correctly diagnose what seems like the problem is with your trusty washing machine and can do so without a visit to the repair man to repair. Or the man to go home repair for that matter.
In fact, you can learn how to repair regardless of the man and avoid having to pay fees for its services. In a sense you may be able to save money andequip yourself with knowledge in taking care of your washing machine. Here are some commonly diagnosed washer problems and their quick fix.
Your washing machine does not run
The first thing you need to do if your washer does not start or run is to check your power cord. You may have forgotten to plug it in or switch it on (so many things running on your mind, not your fault at all). However, your power cord may also have gotten damaged or overheated. If it overheated, shut it off, let it cool for thirty minutes, and start the machine again.
When to call the professional repairman: If the power cord seems to be broken or damaged; if it overheated and still did not start after being cooled for 30 minutes. Hope that the power cord is not damaged beyond repair.
Your washing machine does not fill
If your washing machine does not fill, the mostly likely cause is that your inlet screens or hoses may be blocked with dirt. Check those parts (read the user's manual to know where to find them) and clean them until no dirt remains. If you think the inlet screens are too clogged already, you can replace them with new ones.
When to call the professional repairman: Aside from unclean inlet hoses and/or inlet screens, another reason why a laundry machine does not fill with water may be problems with the water level switch, the lid switch and the timer or temperature selector. When the said switches are broken and are in need of some serious repairs. They may also call for replacements.
Your washing machine does not spin
The most likely reason (and the easiest problem to fix as well) why your laundry machine does not spin is that your clothes load is unbalanced. Check to see if you have accidentally jammed and crammed all your clothes into the tub. Straighten the load and try spinning it again. You may also have to remove some pieces of garments and make another batch of laundry as a load too heavy may prevent the washing machine from properly spinning.
When to call the professional repairman: If straightening your clothes load still does not fix the problem. Other reasons why your washing machine refuses to spin could be problems with the lid switch, drive belt, transmission and the agitator.
Your washing machine does not drain
An unclean and clogged drain hose is the first thing you need to check if your laundry machine does not drain. Clean the drain hose until it is free of dirt and anything that can clog it. When removing the drain hose, remember to put anything underneath it that can catch water from the inside. You can also check if the drive belt is loose. To fix it, loosen the motor mount bolt and pull it back to tighten the drive belt. On the other hand, another reason may be a too tight drain hose. A drain hose which is too tight may block the needed air for water to drain. Adjust it in a way that there is enough space for airflow.
When to call the professional repairman: If the said components of the laundry appliance (drain hose and drive belt) looks broken. If these components are damaged, you may have to replace them with new ones.
Your washing machine leaks
This problem is likely to be caused by a loose connection between the washer and the hoses. The problem could be with the drain hose or the hose needed to fill the tub with water. Check them and tighten the connection. You may also check the pump for obstructions that hinder the free flow of water. Again, remember that when removing hoses or the pump, place something beneath it that can catch water.
Constantly check all washing machine hoses for wear because a worn hose, after being used under constant pressure, has the tendency to burst and flood you house.
When to call the professional repairman: If nothing of the quick fixes above works or if you think the hoses and the pump are damaged. Also, f you already tightened all connections and the leaks still do not stop, the water-inlet valve or switch may have problems.
